The drug Yaz (Generic name: Drospirenone/Ethinyl Estradiol, “droe-SPYE-re-none/ETH-i-nil ES-tra-DYE-ol”) is a powerful oral progesterone and estrogen combination contraceptive used to treat or prevent premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD)  and prevent pregnancy. 

How Yaz Works

Yaz  reduces ovulation by thickening the mucus in the cervix and changing the lining of the Uterine wall.

Common side effects associated with use of this drug include (but not limited to) stroke, heart attack, high blood pressure, bleeding or spotting, severe allergic reactions, calf or leg pain, swelling or  tenderness, left sided jaw, migraines, recurring headache, dizziness, fever, dark urine, pale stool, loss of appetite, liver problems and sudden vision changes.

The Department of Health and Human Services issued a warning letter to Bayer for misleading, breoadening and overstating the efficacy of Yaz.
